I really loved the gentle simplicity of this tale. Boromir's thoughts are so Boromir. Of course he'd be rueful - though he should give himself a break. Traversing Rivendell is totally different from traversing Ithilien. I loved his looking around to see if anyone had 'noticed' his slip. I, too, would wonder how on earth an Elf walked in those shoes. I was a bit surprised at his not wondering about the shoe-less Hobbits. And the Hobbits are great. I loved their easy camaraderie with the Steward's son. Oh - and when Boromir clearly stated to Pip that he needed a cobbler, my first thought was, 'oh no! Pip will surely bring him back a nice sweet!' Nice to see the 'little one' had a bit more sense than I do. I really had to laugh at Boromir's feeling of breathlessness as he listened to best friends, Merry and Pippin. My daughter and her cousin are like that. There is no way that anyone else can get a word in edgewise. The speed is incredible. And yet, you can understand every word they say. I sit back in awe as I listen to them, and giggle. I can imagine it being the same between these two Hobbits. As always, your strength lies with the voice. You got Boromir spot on. And Merry and Pippin's natural state of joy flows under your pen. Delightful tale.

You did a very good job of writing. The dialogue was well written, with the remarks of the hobbits being most amusing. Boromir's thoughts seem quite reasonable, as he realizes how different life is for and among Elves. Everyone seems in-character. Well done.

This is such a heartwarming, homely scene. Boromir in desperate need for a shoe repair, and Merry and Pippin only too eager to help. I can see this scene in my mind. Boromir's bewilderment and the chatty happiness of the two hobbits. The characters are spot on.

Wonderful story about friendship between Boromir and his "little ones". The end is absolutely perfect.

A very nice little scene between Boromir and the Hobbits, detailing some of the time in Rivendell that Tolkien never fully accounted for.
