A sad but sweet story, poignantly portraying the pain of loss and the solemn joy of a last promise fulfilled. Ellynn encorporated past reminiscences and present events quite well, letting plot points flow unhurriedly despite the shortness of the story’s length. Aragorn’s pain of losing Halbarad, still fresh after a year, was acutely shown in his deeds and memories, but in that way the author also showed how deep the love between the two cousins ran. The poignancy of those feelings only doubled later, as Aragorn journeyed north and met Halbarad’s wife and son, about to fulfil Halbarad’s last promise. And at last, the scattering of Halbarad’s ashes in the clearing he had loved was quite tangible, most deeply written among all the events portrayed in this piece despite its brevity – or perhaps, because of it. This story of sad reunion and last parting would suck readers into it and keep them riveted till the bittersweet end, eliciting chest-clenching in the least. – Highly recommended!

-- Aww, thanks for such wonderful words about my story. It means a lot to me.

This is a beautiful and deeply moving story concerning the bond between Aragorn and Halbarad. I liked the idea that Aragorn should take Halbarad's ashes home to the North and feel Halbarad would have liked that far better than being embalmed in the Rath Dinen as some writers suggest. This story is full of vivid touches, Arwen not wishing to intrude, Aragorn wishing "if only", Halbarad's wife and son trying to be brave and glimpses of Halbarad himself and the world he longed for and gave his life to bring into being. A must read story, but do have a handherchief at hand as you will need it.

-- Thank you for the compliments, dear! And as I said to Cairistiona, I always feel the need to say "I'm sorry" when someone tells me she cried over my story...

This story needs to come with a tissue alert! Very moving short story of how Aragorn might have carried out Halbarad's last wishes. Sorrow and loss are the warp but love and memory are the weft in this beautiful tapestry that reflects Halbarad's life and what he meant to his family, his wife, and his King. Beautifully told, from start to finish.

-- Whenever someone says she cried because of my story, I feel the need to appologize. On the other hand, it's also a compliment. Anyway, thanks for your review. :)

A two handkerchief story, at least, this one. Ellynn imagines Aragorn taking the ashes of Halbarad back to Arnor, to his home village and his family, to be scattered - such a sad moment, written with feeling.

-- Thanks, dear. And sorry if I made you cry...

This is a heartwarming story, bringing the story of Halbarad to closure for Aragorn and Halbarad's close family. I like the little ceremony Aragorn has with Halbarad's wife and son. The memories of Halbarad they all have paint a vivid picture of the man he was.

-- Thanks for your kind review. :)
