I loved celeborn and Aragorn speaking to Legolas and Gimli; separately, but both saying the same thing. Start, even if you won't see the finish. And their later conversations with themselves, I thought they actually progressed quite naturally, the didn't just become friends, they worked towards it, which made it a lot more...stable. Well done.

A very balanced view of Legolas and Gimli as they begin to hammer out a friendship in Lothlórien. What I especially like about this is that elf and dwarf are given equal time, equal strengths, and equal faults. It's not one-sided, and I very much respect that. I also like the idea that Legolas and Gimli had to be prompted into it by Celeborn and Aragorn. That strikes me as appropriate.

For me, this is the defining story to show how Legolas and Gimli became friends. This was masterfully done, with each character's thoughts paralleling the other's though, of course, neither know it. Their grief over Gandalf's death is portrayed beautifully and their struggle to overcome their preconceptions of each other's race. This is brilliant.

Ah yes, "the moment" as Tolkien carefully did *not* tell it. Nice use of Gandalf's last request to Gimli and Legolas (unless one counts "Fly you fools") as the means by which to bring Gimli and Legolas to the point where they are willing to try to befriend each other.
