Oh. I'm thinking of poor scared Pippin watching over Merry. *sad*

Pippin seems eternally optimistic, and I love how the lighthearted flashback feeds into the more serious moment as Pippin decides that Merry is just "hiding."

This was beautiful and I liked the optimism Pippin managed to hold onto when looking at his stricken cousin.

This is a very sweet drabble in the beginning, and I love this line: "This one was graced with endless patience, perhaps in preparation to be older cousin to this younger one." I love that Pippin remembers Merry's words from that long ago night, and that they bring him comfort when he needs it. I liked the thought that Pippin knew that Merry was still there, that the Shadow hadn't completely taken his cousin. The bit from their childhood ties into the closing line perfectly. Lindelea manages to clearly show each character's personality here. I could see from this just how they grew up to be where they are at the point of the ending line, so very well done, Lin!

The parallel reassurances worked nicely in a situation where reassurer and reassured are very much reversed.
