I'm a sucker for Faramir introspection, and the opening of this story immediately grabbed my attention. I love Faramir the Dreamer, especially when coupled with the idea that the dreamer can be a wise and crafty fighter, which is essentially what Fileg shows here. The flashback to stars and Adrahil was done well, and I like the idea of the two warriors and how they're equally useful though one is more obvious than the other.

I recognize the same imagery from Fileg's River of Fallen Stars, only here they have yet to fall. I loved the relationship between Faramir and his grandfather, and it makes me glad for him that he had that in his past considering how his relationship would be with his father later.

The story "River of fallen stars" has this precursor wherein Faramir recalls how his grandfather taught him about the Gondorian constellations Archer who defends and who hunts to support a family (representing in my mind Faramir) and the Swordsman (aka Orion) who defends Arda from the dark (evocating in my mind Boromir). Small Faramir still craves for battle glory while his grandfather explains that fighting is only a means to secure the survival of the living.
