I thought of movie-Gimli and comic relief, that's true, but I wasn't as horrified by it as some of my acquaintances in the fandom. I liked how you showed him, not as a buffoon, but secure enough to be the clown at times. Well done.

Mmm. Dwarf stripping. Seriously, though, I really enjoyed the explanation for why Gimli seemed so intent on playing comic sidekick for much of the movies. Also very much enjoyed was the fact that Legolas and Gimli could so easily team up against Aragorn in the first part of the story. It seems Legolas is willing to exploit Gimli's role as comic relief.

I mostly like the friendship in this story. Tolkien told us they were friends, but it often takes fanfic writers to show us that friendship. Legolas comes across as very Elf-like in this one and Gimli very Drarvish, and yet they still find themselves friends. I like Gimli's protective streak for Legolas. But I would like to know why the children tittered.

Besides being a very nice friendship tale, I really liked how this offered an explanation for why movie!Gimli is such a clown. Thanks for the nice story.

I did like this story. It gave me an angle on movie!Gimli that went beyond his use as comic relief and underappreciated grunt in the arsenal of the West. It gave his humor-exaggerated, almost stereotypical for me by the end of the films-a rationale that was plausible.
