Welcome to the MEFA Archive
The Middle-Earth Fanfiction Awards ran from 2004-2011. The awards were founded by Ainaechoiriel in 2004 and Marta took over admin duties in 2006. A big thanks to both of them for guiding the MEFAs!
The Archive contains a listing of all awards competitors. There are links to the story (we do not host them here) along with some basic information about the story and the reviews it received.
The MEFA Archive Group
The Awards are over, but there is still an Archive to maintain and history to record. If you would like to help out with preserving MEFA history, or if you would just like to reconnect with other MEFA participants, you can join the MEFA Archive group at https://groups.io/g/MEFAwards.
The MEFA Yahoo Groups
The MEFAs were first run in a Yahoo Group and it remained the main forum for communication throughout the MEFA's history. Yahoo decided to shut down Yahoo Groups in December 2019. The MEFAwards and mefa-discussion groups have been backed up and are available to read here at the MEFA Archive.
Updating Story Links
If you need to update the links to your stories, or you find a story in the archive with broken links, please contact Aranel at araneltook@mefawards.org and/or join the MEFA Archive group to post an update request.
Since we don't store any of the stories here at the archive, we rely on keeping links up-to-date to keep the stories accessible. If your stories need a new home, Archive of Our Own (AO3) is a multi-fandom archive that is dedicated to the preservation of fandom history.
MEFAwards Archive To Do List
If you would like to help out with preserving MEFA history, there are some tasks that I could use help with. If you can help out with anything, contact Aranel at araneltook@mefawards.org and/or join the MEFA Archive group.
- The Banner Project: An item of MEFA history we are missing here at the Archive are the Nominee and Awards Banners for each year. If you were a MEFA banner maker and still have the banners, or you're an author who has banners from your participation in the awards, we would love to have copies of them to display at the archive! Banners can be added to the story info page, let me know which banner goes with which story.
- Compile a list of volunteers for each year: I would like to list everyone who volunteered for the awards each year: admins, tech support, liaisons, banner makers, etc. This job would probably be best accomplished by going through the archives of the MEFAwards and mefa-discussion Yahoo Groups.
- Groups.io Wiki: We have a Wiki available at Groups.io. I would like to use it to create a basic back-up of the information here, specifically the competitors/winners of each year's awards, with links to the story and to the info page (and reviews) here at the MEFA Archive.
- Maintain the MEFA entry at Fanlore.org: The MEFAs have an entry at Fanlore.org. Gaps can be filled in using the archives of the MEFA Yahoo groups. Possibly add a list of particpants/winners for each year?
