It's been a long while since I've stumbled onto a poet this talented, and I have to express my sincere thanks for these awards or I would have never found Elwen's poetry. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'm going back over the two poems now in this category, and I'm still finding a host of things I never noticed on the first few readings. Simply put, this is art. The metaphors were taken from things that already have life in their own right, and then they were applied to other things that were equally vibrant, further increasing the poem's energy. The alliteration was subtle but very powerful, and it gave the poem a quick, crisp feeling. I don't know if this was done on purpose or not (though given the sophistication of the writing, it wouldn't surprise me) but I noticed that in the poem "Battle Song of the Riddermark," much of the alliteration was done using the consonents H and B, which reminded me of wind and drum beats. Very appropriate. And the colors painted in "The Creation of Horses" completely blew me away, and I can just imagine all those colors racing together in a herd of horses. Beautiful writing from a stunning poet. Thank you so much for sharing your gift.
