I've read this several times before and it always makes me sniffle. Not only Thranduil's memories of the thorns, and what he told Legolas, but also at the way Legolas lived up to the words he's learned. Well done.

This is beautiful. I actually cried a few tears when I first read it and the song at the end really sealed that deal. And then I cried the first time I heard the song on the radio. The characterizations were very good and I loved the relationship between Legolas and each of his parents, and of course between Thranduil and his wife. Legolas's letter is just like him-as I like to think of him. Light and yet not unaware of the darkness. A little humorous, but noble and wise throughout.

I love Nickel Creek and the Hand Song, but loved this story by Puter Patty even more. She can definitely write young ones, and her characterization of young Legolas, Thranduil and his wife are marvellous. Nothing is so sweet as a father's memories of his child, and Thranduil is portrayed as a doting and caring father. We feel his sadness as he reads Legolas' letter, also his pride in his son. A beautiful story.
