This was a great deal of fun! The young and green Aragorn and Halbarad are sent out on Ranger training exercises together. It's clear at the beginning of the story that they haven't been getting along well, and that Halbarad's been trying to get Aragorn taken down several pegs, at the very least. A series of unfortunate events leads both of them to reassess one another and become better friends. A really enjoyable read from start to finish!

By the time Tolkien introduces us to Halbarad, it's clear that he and Aragorn are close kinsmen who have served together often. But Tolkien never tells us the beginning of that relationship, and I find it very plausible that there were some rough patches as Aragorn transferred out of Rivendell and into the service of the Rangers. Aeärwen exploits that possibility and inserts Halbarad as one of those rough patches, providing an opportunity to explore both the time of transition and the backstory behind it.

One great thing about MEFA is the chance to discover gems I'd somehow overlooked and this was certainly one such such gem. It is very plausible that Aragorn and Halbarad may not have liked each other at first, given Aragorn's very different upbringing. I loved this story about how adverse circumstances brought the two together in the beginning of a great friendship.

Indeed a time of overcoming initial suspicions and learning one another's strong points for both Aragorn and Halbarad as they learn to cooperate after a tussle leads to injury, and the two young Dunedain are delated in their return to their fellows. So it is that the injury leads to friendship and cooperation. A very nice look at the beginnings of their relationship.

A very nice story about growing friendship. I liked the fact that they did not imidiatly like each other, and you made their change of heart belivable in the relative short time you had.

A fun and insightful "getting-acquainted" story. Aragorn is out for the first time among the Dunedain, and his cousin Halbarad seems inexplicably resentful of him, until they are forced by circumstance to spend time together.

Very entertaining and interesting look at how Aragorn and Halbarad might have gotten along... or not... upon first meeting each other. The exchange of insults had me laughing aloud at times, but the way the two warring men finally found peace and acceptance with each other and their differences was heartwarming. I very much enjoyed this story.
