This story was written for a challenge for the wedding of your nightmares, and this wedding certainly turned out to be a hectic nightmare of sorts, as Pippin and his very pregnant wife Diamond attend the wedding of his cousin Sancho. The adage [whatever can go wrong will go wrong] was coined for events like this, and several things already had-- until Pippin and Diamond find themselves accidentally locked in a pantry, and then Diamond goes into labor! I like especially how determined (and competent) Pippin is when he's in a pinch. (Reminds me of the way he managed his and Merry's escape from the orcs-- making do with what was at hand!) The story is told from the delightful POV of Pippin's mother Eglantine, and her fond musings on the day are filled with humor and insight. Cathleen's comic timing is excellent, and I love the way Pippin handles the situation-- to his entire satisfaction.

Another wonderful Pippin story from Cathleen! Leave it to Pippin, and Diamond, to get into a fix at Sancho Proudfoot's wedding. The story is told in vignettes, starting with a scene with Eglantine and Paladin Took reminiscing about the event, then we move to happenings at the wedding, and then end up back with Paladin and Eglantine. Even with the vignette style, the story reads smoothly and is a joy. Come on, don't you want to know what happens at Sancho's wedding?

I didn't quite know what to expect from this story, but it proved to make me smile and feel good. Pippin always gets his way, huh? I'm not sure this was what he had in mind. I liked the format that the story was told through Eglantines memories of the day.

It is said that when it rains it pours, and that's the way it goes for Sancho Proudfoot and his bride as Diamond and Pippin find themselves stuck in a pantry just as Diamond's water breaks! Unexpected births attended to by our belovedly resourceful Pippin while everybody else is trying to find the Thain. Good pacing and plenty of humor!
