Brilliant, witty, outrageous and highly entertaining, these are only a few of the words I could use to describe this ficlet. The swiftness of the action, the clarity of each stroke and counter stroke, blended with the reparte of participants and bystanders is masterfully done. Somehow I can imagine just a scene like this, powerful Eomer facing and being surprised by the scholarly but no less warrior-skilled Faramir in friendly combat. The asides by Eowyn and Lothiriel are no less priceless, and the ending is perfectly hilarious. What a fun and well-paced look at two of our favorite Men, and yes, it manages to very neatly interject a little of that Saturday-football-game mentality even to noble Faramir and Eomer! Well done.

Oh, now *this* is hilarious. Eomer's and Faramir's fencing match was vivid in my mind (perhaps because I've seen my share), and Lothiriel's and Eowyn's actions likewise made a lot of sense to me. I was a little confused, though, about where Aragorn came from. For some place I envisioned this taken place in Ithilien, and while that's not far from Minas Tirith, there's really no indication of Aragorn being around. Maybe this last part would work better if it was someone from Ithilien who popped up there? Maybe Beregond?

A very enjoyable vignette that captures both Faramir and Eomer totally in character. I would still like to know what it was they were fighting for -- a bet, a matter of honour? Or just play? but that's the joy of these stories because the reader can fill in their own backstory. I find action sequences the hardest to write, yet this author has written them so the movement is clear. Well done!

One wonders what the matter was that led up to this little fencing match. Given that the two are clearly playing, it could've been just about anything. An amusing vignette—I think Éowyn's assessment of her brother's ruthlessness right at the beginning was among the best lines and rather set the tone for things.

Fun! This story had a brisk, tight feel to it, which works well with its subject. I can see Faramir and Eomer talking each other into the idea of fencing in order to sort their differences. Good pacing, and thank you for keeping it evenly matched.

A lively depiction of a fencing match I'd love to see. The fencing seems very well described. I enjoyed Aragorn's entrance at the end...

You had me laughing in the first two paragraphs...Eomer's complete reluctance to punch people in the face, indeed! Well done on the fighting scenes. I was able to picture them pretty well. (And believe me, that is saying a lot). Good story.
