Oh. That passage in the book almost always made me tear up...about Halbarad, never coming again to the North. Well done.

Good characterization of Halbarad there at the end. You got a few tears out of me with that one.

I really like stories like this that take a minor character who is little more than a name in the books and really bring him to life, even when you show us his death. Very moving.

I love the character of Halbarad, and this story does him justice. Set in the midst of action and the terrible battle of the Pelennor Fields, this is a surprisingly quiet little vignette. It starts out in Halbarad's head as he tries to keep Aragorn in his sights, which is great way to begin any Halbarad characterization, and then moves into the actual battle. The action is quick and soon over, but the consequences are not. I very much appreciate the story's assertion that Aragorn realizes he has other duties and cannot keep Halbarad from death. He lets him go because for all that Halbarad is worth to Aragorn, he is still only one man on a battlefield. Heartwrenching tale, but one with a glimmer of hope and satisfaction in the end.
