As always, Elliska brings us a great adventure story with all her fabulous OFCs and mixes them in with canon. The river is dangerous and of all elves, Mirkwood elves should know. This great children's adventure story is in the true story-telling tradition and as I have said before, the cadence and rhythm of this are what gives it authenticity and brings it truly into the genre of the Hobbit. I feel like I am reading an extension of The Hobbit reading this. As always ,there is a strong moral in this and the characters grow as a result of their adventures. I lke too that our favourite canon characters are NOT always perfect.

Elliska's stories of Legolas, and his extended family, as he grows up in The Great Greenwood, are a pleasure to read; and this tale of the youngsters getting more adventure than they had expected as they raft down the river is no exception. Her original characters are all nicely rounded, with distinct personalities, and her writing style flows, never causing any of those 'uh?' moments that plague less well written fiction.

It's easy enough to be caught up in the fun of building rafts. But rafts and rivers can be dangerous. Courage springs from horror and friends from enemies. An interesting, rather breath-taking event for a young Elf. Very nicely done.

A group of children's play turns prospectively deadly in a series of mishaps on the river...It could happen anywhere, but it happens here to young Legolas and some friends. Elliska writes a suspenseful and realistic story, sure to please those who like both elven tales and tales of adventure.
