We know that Celeborn knows of the Ents, and that the Ents remember the Elves of Doriath, but we never get a meeting between them. Aranel gives us a final parting that is, for the reader, also a first time. She really captures the melancholy of departure, and its anxieties, despite the fact that Celeborn has clearly come to his decision. The intercutting of past and present helps set the mood, and for a time, it even puts doubt in the reader's mind as to what is really about to happen - has Celeborn failed to find Valinor, or has he yet to depart? What is past, what is present? Time between the intercuts shifts, so that around the conversation of Treebeard and Celeborn, the past and the future unfold - and indeed, Treebeard's "present tense" becomes the past, and a promise. There is something appropriate about that, and about Treebeard - who took Aragorn once to task for making promises beyond his capacity to keep - should make so grand a promise himself. It suggests that even Ents have a future, and that they are, in some ways, as mortal and prone to go beyond their means and measures as any human being or Elf. Very beautifully done - I love the way the structure helps draw out emotion in this piece. Give this a read, especially if you like Celeborn or unusual meetings.

How awe-inspiring, this last meeting and parting between Elven Lord and ancient Ent, and how reassuring the promise by Treebeard to continue as he has ever done! Lovely visuals, and a poignant last conversation between two who best loved the forests of Middle Earth! And love the image of Celeborn's arrival in the Undying Lands and the greeting he knows there!

This is a very gentle piece with a bittersweet yearning for the past that never comes back. Treebeards promise I think is the reassurance Celeborn needed to let go of Middle-earth and sail forward to meet with Galadriel.

Aranelgoldenflower shows us a final meeting between Celeborn and Treebeard, one that is interspersed with visions of Celeborn's journey to Valinor and his welcome by Galadriel. It is a melancholy piece and yet an uplifting one, implying a friendship that could not be easy, but nevertheless would be faithful.

Though there are some technical problems (punctuation mainly), this is a lilting tribute to the love between Celeborn and Galadriel as confided in a surprising but appropriate confidante. It is nice to think these two characters should be friends.

This is a little sad and melancholic, but lovely ficlet of love and friendship. Nicely done.
