This piece made me chortle the first time I read it, and still does. Written for the B2MEM prompt "Isolation", this answers very funnily the question "what on earth has Radagast been doing all the way through LoTR?" Happily oblivious to the great events unfolding across Middle-earth, focused entirely on the doings of flora and fauna, Radagast manages to have a conversation entirely at cross-purposes with Legolas and Gimli when he encounters them on the road after the Ring War. After the machinations of Saruman and the cares and responsibilities of Gandalf, I couldn't quite decide whether it was endearing or infuriating to meet a Wizard who - rather like the folk of the Shire, or Bombadil and Goldberry - had almost entirely failed to notice the story in which I'd been so utterly caught up as it unfolded over the preceding year in Middle-earth. The result was certainly very funny - to the Elf and the Dwarf, as well as to the reader, I suspect!

I knew I had to read this when I saw Azalais' review: it mentioned Radagast! Ah, but it is to mock. Saruman despised him for a fool, Tolkien said that he failed in his mission, and now Radagast is being picked on in this funny vignette by Starlight. The tendency (okay, *my* tendency) is to feel some measure of respect, or at least sympathy, for this being who is such a good friend to animals and birds but forsook his Wizardly duties as a consequence. Privately, I like the theory that Radagast's true purpose was not to meddle in the affairs of Elves and Men but to clean up after them in times of peace. Oh well, he's got his shot at that [massive rebuilding project] in this story as well, but you may find yourself sharing Legolas's doubts before it's over.

Wow, Radagast certainly was behind with the times, wasn't he? I think he would have sensed long before, though, that the Ring War was over - or at least the birds would have brought him news of it at the time. Nevertheless, I was delighted to read this charming fic featuring the Brown Wizard because he is oft overlooked in fanfiction. AND I have a serious soft spot for him! And Gimli, too! So thank you very much, Starlight, for making my day with this lovely wee story featuring some of my favourite characters!

A very amusing look at what happens when you are so isolated, you havenââ¬â¢t a clue as to what is going on. Radagast is a cheerful naif while Legolas and Gimli are spot on. Well written.

Amusing and written with a light touch. A brilliant response to the prompt. Also a gapfiller in the sense that it explains why we do not hear anything more of Radagast after the rescue from Orthanc.

The title says it all, although I suppose Radagast would merely argue that he has different priorities. An amusing tale, nicely written.

Poor easily distracted Radagast, he's only a little behind the times...LOL! This was quite funny.
