The birth of the Tolkien fandom deserved a epic chronicle: truth to be told, it had it coming. And did you ever ask yourself what Elrond and his Eyebrows of Doom may have to say about it? Not to mention the Lord of Oxford and his troubled relationship with the fanfic writers... When this author sets a-writing, one can only expect to laugh her head off; but what characterizes good parody is above all the sympathetic print of a curious, intelligent mind. Needless to say, Araloth has it; and as readers that have been shooed away from the genre by too many badly done so-called humorous pieces, we cannot but be grateful for it. Taking the parody of the Professor's ancient style to as yet unreached heights, with self-irony and admirable lucidity the author takes on the most embarrassing aspects of fangirling with the sparkling wit that would make even the most die-hard and humourless of fans laugh. Because nothing is so good as a serious thing one enjoys, but knows well is not that serious after all.

All right, I was laughing so hard I could barely get through this madcap piece of zaniness. Araloth does a wonderful job of poking fun at EVERYONE within the fanfiction world, including the very characters about whom we writers write. This is a hysterically funny piece written in the style of the King James version of the Bible with its flowery language and archaisms. I practically lost it with such gems of verse as Legolas own version of the Sermon of the Mount given unto the adoring multitudes: [Blessed are they who do not squee. For what doth it profit an Elf if thou dost squee at him all day, and never give him a moment's rest from thy shrieks?] And it only gets better (or worse, depending on ones viewpoint). So, go ahead and read this and have a good laugh. See if you can identify yourself among the various groups of fanfiction writers and Tolkien fans. Araloth takes no prisoners; she spoofs everyone equally. And that is as it should be.

"In the Beginning..." It is such a delight to read the conflict between canatics and others so beautifully and wittily depicted as it is here, complete with the attempt by Legolas to convey that there is more to writing fanfiction than projecting oneself into Middle Earth and into a relationship with him, no matter how "hot" he might appear. Araloth is to be highly commended for her appreciation for the various parties she so beautifully lampoons and for her ability to promote better writing is such a manner as to offend almost no one. And this is so beautifully written it will bring out guffaws, I believe, even in those who are simply into fanfiction to imagine scurrilous affairs between hot elves and others. And the descriptions of Aragorn and Gandalf are so WONDERFUL! Congratulations, and thanks for a delightful, heartwarming laugh at the expense of all of us!

The word hilarious doesn't seem to quite cover the way this parody makes one's face ache from smiling and ribs hurt from laughing. Truth is at the heart of all humor and this tale gently, and sometimes not so gently, pokes fun (or perhaps I should say, pokeths fun? Eh, no. I'm hardly the expert at King James English that this author is) at many of the foibles of the Tolkien fandom, from Mary Sue stories to fanon derived from the movies to the conflicts between those who prefer canon and those who prefer AU and everything in between. Definitely something to read when you need a good laugh... it will more than brighten your day.

A very funny send-up, with lofty biblical prose mentioning various fanfic/fandom cliches in hilarious ways, of Tolkien fandom. Suethors, slashors, canon purists, [Leggites] and other factions all come under fire, delivered most often by Elrond and his [Eyebrows of DOOM]. And poor Tolkien continues to develop his abs by rolling over in his grave! I guess I'm a lifetime member of the cult of [the Gondorian Tamer of Feisty Shield-Maidens], but this was a real treat to read!

This is another laugh-out-loud parody by Araloth and it entertains just as much as the Silmarillion Gospel. The biblical references are very skillfully used to to comment on trends among fanfiction writers, and one can readily imagine Elrond with his impressive eye-brows taking on the role of Moses. Very funny, very clever, very well done.
