In these two portraits, the author’s style is what stands out the most, right from the start. With crisp detail, she manages to render a wonderful mind’s-eye picture for the reader, and in so many words, it’s truly wonderful. Her word choice is spot-on for the tone and premise of the piece, and there’s a wonderful, nearly lyric quality about this couplet that works very well. And though both of these pieces are relatively short, together they provide a haunting glimpse into the final moments of these two characters—their strength of mind and courage is immediately evident, and the couplet’s overall effect is perfect.

Author response: Thanks so, so much for your review - I could read it over and over!! Gosh. You call them portraits, and thats such a compliment - I had the images of both of them in my head and just wanted to convey them, and only them, so its incredible that you've chosen to use that word specifically. Thank youuu! :)

Elfique blends beautiful imagery of fire and water in this drabble dealing with the battle of Ecthelion and the Balrog, and its fateful ending. A big splashy battle is not easy to describe in a hundred words, but the prose flows effortlessly here.

Author response: Thank you for such a complimentary review of 'Moments of Passing'... though now part of me is tempted to say I wished I just wrote "there was a big splashy battle" ! ;)

This is one of my most preferred pieces ever, for all its shortness. Every word has its place, and strikes true (very much like the two protagonists). The feelings and descriptions are detailed and accurate and yet expressed in few words. The emotions evoked are beautiful - grief, glory, gratitude. Definitely a piece I'll be keeping in my favourites.

Author response: Thank you for the review, and of course for the nomination as well! Its a huge compliment for you to say this is one of your most preferred pieces ever, especially considering what other great fanfiction writers there are out there!
