What a beautiful memorial to the four Hobbits--a statue of each one, set in a garden that they were able to see planted before they left the city, each in a pose that seemed to bring out the best in them. I, too, have imagined a memorial to the four of them at the level of the Citadel, one often visited by those who live in or visit the White City; this one is, I believe, most appropriately imagined. And I can well believe that the King would visit it himself, honoring those who came so far from their own peaceful land to help in the destruction of the evil of their age. Nicely done.

In this cute story, Aragorn wants to commission a sculpture to honor the two hobbit heroes. However, the ever humble Sam would rather that the statue be of Frodo, while Frodo, ashamed of his failure, would prefer that the statue be of Sam, who supported him both physically and emotionally upon every step of the journey. Can a compromise be made which will appease both hobbits? If you like sweet, heartwarming stories about Frodo and Sam, and want to see a Middle-earth twist upon Memorial Day, be sure to check this one out.

I really enjoyed this wee fic. Even on (multiple) re-reads, it is delightful and heartwarming. How like Frodo and Sam to try and give each other the glory instead of themselves! My favourite line was ["Couldn't you just make one of Mr Frodo, all shiny like."] That's Sam spot on! This is a beautiful piece that made me smile. Cousin Mo x
