An exceptional tribute to one of the best friendships within LotR. I love how the title and the first part were misleading in that the evidence didn't automatically point to Frodo as the creator of this garden. And that's very appropriate, because this is as much a wonderful surprise for Sam as it is for readers. They were both Ring-bearers, they were both leaders, and now they are both gardeners. The circle is complete, the last bond between them is connected, and the result is endlessly satisfying. Beautiful tale.

O what a lovely surprise! It took me a few blinks to realise who the gardener was... very nicely done. I do love the way you write. The second chapter was a nice fulfillment; it was good to see the reunion of the old friends. And the way you reversed the roles: the gardener becoming the writer and vice versa, an interesting and touching picture of two good friends, each honouring the other.

This ficlet goes into exquisite detail of a beautiful garden that has been lovingly tended for years, `a labour of love to honour a lifelong friend.' It has an unusual twist at the end, and it's not who you expect it to be, which makes it all the more lovely.
