I really like the way you've brought in theme of the doom of the Elves being entwined with that of Estel, and the man he will become: [ ...that day will be bittersweet. Our hope is for his success; our alternative is our common deaths.] How farsighted of the Elves to see so much in the hands of a child! [ ...becoming for a short time that which we are not: Men of the North.] This is a very intriguing concept, and one which I don't recall seeing to much of: the Mannish heritage of the Peredhel, and how they recognized and accepted that part of themselves to join with the Dunedain, pledging their lives in fealty to both kin and king.

[spoilers] This is a fantastic idea, and one I hadn't thought of before: that Elrohir and Elladan didn't just ride with the Northern Dunedain, but that they actually *became* one of those people, at least for a stretch of years. It's not that stretch of the imagination given that they are only half-Elven, but the fact that it was love for Estel that made them make this jump was truly touching, and a good way to add substance to their part in LOTR.

The brother dynamic between Elladan, Elrohir, and Aragorn has been the subject of numerous stories, but I do like this one for its unambiguous 'transformation' of the brothers. Their love for their human brother, who will leave them in so short a space of time as Elvenkind count such things, leads them to put off the Elf-lords for a time and to become ["for a short time that which we are not: Men of the North."] It has a sort of House of Ruth flavor to it that I like. Fans of the twins, Elrond's family, or those interested in mortal-immortal interactions should like this one.

This drabble made me consider something that had never crossed my mind before; characterisations of Elrohir and Elladan that I have read, including LotR itself, portray the twins as elvish in every way. Yet as Peredhel they must have wondered at some point in their lives about what it would mean to be human. Their journeys with Estel must have been enlightening for them. Very thoughtful drabble about the relationship between the three of them.

I really like this, especially anything with the twins and Estel :>) Love the last line: ['becoming for a short time that which we are not: Men of the North.'] I've always liked the image of Elladan and Elrohir with the rangers, especially the idea that they only joined them to support Aragorn.

Aha! At last the thoughts of Elladan and Elrohir that led them to join those of the Dunedain that could be gathered in haste and sent south to Aragorn's aid. The title is a bit misleading, but the drabble is well done.

The twins' commitment to Estel to be his ["brothers of the heart and brothers at arms"] is conveyed very movingly. I like that this drabble lets them explore the other part of their heritage; that it is not Estel who is trying to become one of the Elves among whom he grew up, but that the two (Half-)Elves try to follow the ways of Men for a time.

I have long been curious as to just why Elladan and Elrohir rode with the Dunadain and this drabble answers the question perfectly. It seems very fitting that their kinship and brotherhood with Aragorn would lead them to follow him during his greatest endeavour.

Such a simple thing as love and loyalty, yet so strong. This is a very nice drabble, simple and yet powerfully done.

A nice picture of the relationship between the sons of Elrond and the future King. [So we will journey with him until he no longer needs us by his side and that day will be bittersweet.]
