Ok, I can't resist Aragorn and Faramir. And I loved that last line: the white overwhelms the black-well done, Aragorn: if you can't beat the Black Captain, infiltrate his ranks and allow your cannier opponent to defeat him nicely for you. With any luck, the office politics will work so well!

Companion to "The King is Dead", this story in my opinion comes a bit nearer to LotR than "The Queen's Gambit" of A.L. Milton. Well done inclusion of politics. I like to see the working Steward. Very concise use of words only hinting at hidden meanings revealed only by thinking about them. I like this style, for me it has a touch of poetry.

I hope the world post the Ring war is indeed like this.
