A sweet mixture of Dr. Who and the Shire as we see the Tardis turn up in a mathom room of the Great Smials, just in time to be met by the newest Thain and Took’s son and heir, who has been intent on finding and presenting his cousins and contemporaries with the most perfect gifts imaginable. After all, he’s the first of his kind in over a generation, as Ferumbras had never married and so Pippin’s father had never dreamed at Pippin’s age he’d one day need to prove himself as the Thain’s heir to the younger Hobbits of the place. And it appears that Dr. Who and Gandalf are old friends! Now, can these strange visitors help Pippin produce the best treats ever for the young folks of the Great Smials? It appears they can, and that they will unwittingly help start a new Yuletide tradition for the Tooklands!

“The Doctor meets the Maia” could probably be the subtitle for this story about the Time Lord bringing Sarah Jane to Middle-earth for the holidays. The Tom Baker version of the Doctor will always be my favorite, as he was the first Doctor I encountered when living in England. Pearl Took does a lovely job of capturing the impish essences of both the Doctor and Gandalf and I loved the face-off between the two of them. That was hysterical. The solution for Pippin’s dilemma was just right and I’m glad it was Gandalf who suggested it. Oh, and I so want that scarf, Pearl! LOL! Good job!

I’m not a Doctor Who fan, but I just loved this story, especially the clever conceit that both Doctor Who and Tolkien’s world were real. Sometimes I do almost believe the latter! What a lovely idea that the Doctor should seek to cheer up his homesick companion by taking her to visit Pippin and Gandalf for Yule! I felt for poor Pippin as he felt that as heir to the Thain he must give special Yule gifts to his cousins. What a lovely idea to make jelly wizards for them in a similar recipe to tasty jelly babies. Sheer delight from start to finish!

A lovely Yule treat, with the Fourth Doctor of the [Doctor Who] series dropping in on the Shire several years before the Ring War with his companion Sarah Jane, and meeting Gandalf and the young Pippin. I love Pippin's boundless and burbling curiosity, and the familiarity between the Doctor and Gandalf. The consequence of their visit, the hobbits starting a tradition of magical Big People dispensing the 'jelly wizards' treats during Yule, is just perfect...The Fourth Doctor has always been my favorite, so I did enjoy this story.

I am unfortunately only familiar with Sarah Jane from New Who, and this story makes me want to seek out serials of her time as a companion. The banter between Sarah Jane and the Doctor is wonderful, as is Pippin’s reaction to the TARDIS and her inhabitants. And the solution to Pippin’s problem is a wonderful homage to the fourth Doctor’s love of Jelly Babies.

This is a truly delightful, creative response to a Yule challenge! I love the way Pearl crossed the two universes of LOTR and Dr Who. While I am not very familiar with Dr Who, I still found this story highly entertaining and enjoyable, as I'm sure the recipient of the fic in the exchange did, as well. Gandalf and Pippin are wonderfully in character, and Pearl skillfully weaves a tale of mystery and intrigue right up until the end!

*grin* This is "my" crossover-- written for me for a Yule fic exchange, and I love it to pieces. I just adore that Gandalf is acquainted with The Doctor, and that Sarah Jane is fangirling the whole experience. And Pippin is just adorable as he shows off the Great Smials to his unusual guests!
