One of the things I enjoy about Cathleen's 'verse is the friendship/rivalry between Pippin and his Proudfoot cousin, Sancho. Sancho, who appears on the Family Tree as being born the same year as Pippin, is a sadly underutilized character in fanfic, even though he actually has "screen-time" in the story-- as the young hobbit who tries to dig up the Bag End cellar after the Party in a search for treasure-- and so it's nice to see someone who often makes use of him in her story. In this one, the two are still rather young, and when Pippin's stuffed toy, the famous Tulip, goes missing-- he immediately accuses Sancho of stealing her. In his own turn, Sancho accuses another young cousin whom *he* suspects... It takes the clever mind of Pippin's father to figure out the mystery and provide a solution that no one thought of! A lovely bit of childhood fluff, and a very nice read!
