Summary: What happened to Melian after Elu, the last of her incarnate family, was dead? What reason did she have? Or perhaps, it was just a nightmare out of control?â⬦(A double drabble: 200 words exactly)

When Elu Thingol died, what precipitated the abandonment of the ruins of Doriath by his queen? In this brief ficlet Earille has managed to depict that moment perfectly, as Melian realizes that he was her anchor to her past incarnate life and form, and without him she cannot maintain either. Well told with a wonderful economy of words but with no stinting on the imagery inherent in the destruction of Menegroth and the chilling loss of its Lady to Middle Earth. Each time I read this anew I wonder again at how powerful this ficlet is!

Excellent exploration of the departure of Melian from Doriath. Earille captures the sundering of her spirit from Elu's and then the final sundering, with his loss, of the mortal form in which she had reigned as queen by his side in Middle-earth. There is a fitting sense of confusion and sorrow and melancholy captured in this short piece.

This is a wonderful character study on Melian. I think the author has done a wonderful job highlighting what was most important to this character, and then demonstrating the emotions she would have felt once those things were no more. A very believable and emotional look at Melian.

A capable exploration of a very interesting premise. Melian's situation was unique in all the Ages of Middle-earth, and Earille has captured a fascination interpretation of her character and what she would choose to do.

Interesting choice, to have Melian give up embodiment and return to her natural form. Very sad!
