Summary: Following battle, Pippin experiences another odd dream. A/N: Hithfaer means ââ¬ÅMist- Spiritââ¬Â. The soothsaying cat of Gondorian legend first appeared in my story ââ¬ÅA Cat of a Different Colourââ¬Â and then in ââ¬ÅPerchance to Dreamââ¬Â.

Something I absolutely love seeing in fanfiction is an author with both the courage and the skill to reexamine canon and pull something from it that no one noticed before. Cathleen does this beautifully in this tale as she uses Hithfaer to show Pippin his own version of foresight and how it has already helped him. The glimpse of a coming battle is brilliantly relayed, vague enough to be a future event but defined enough to flesh out the details of what we all know is coming. That Pippin doesn't remember the dream enough to remember the exact warning is also a nice touch. It lets him act on his own hope rather than being compelled by certain knowledge. A superb blending of Gondor lore and hobbit determination!

Trying to get some much-needed sleep after the siege of Minas Tirith and the Battle of the Pelennor, worn out and still feeling the sorrow of very nearly losing Merry, Pippin has a prescient dream; the reader understands the dream if Pippin does not, yet it gives him some comfort as he marches off to the Black Gate. I especially like the conversation with Beregond at the end.

That is one mysterious cat. Pippins's dream had an eery feel to it. Even as a reader who knows the rest of the story, I'm not sure what to make of it. The description of the dream was vivid and typical of a dream with all the strange inconsistencies only a dream can have.
