Summary: A set of vignettes which all take place during one particularly challenging day during the War of the Ring, March 14, 3019. The vignettes are based around the monastic services of the hours, seven in all, from 3:15 a.m. to 7:30 p.m; additionally, each vignette focuses on one of the senses- taste, touch, etc. Some are well-known characters in well-known scenarios, others are more obscure.

Wow. This is an amazing fic that looks at nearly the whole of Middle-earth on the day the Pelennor was overrun. If you read the appendices, you know that quite a bit is happening on that day aside from the skirmish around Minas Tirith, but I've never seen that fact condensed into fic form so well before. And each individual scene was in every way a vignette. It was a quick but thorough look at the characters involved, and I loved the idea of playing off the senses for the individual scenes. Beautiful writing.

An evokative group of poignant vignettes, bookmarked by Denethor at the beginning and end. I liked the idea of each focusing on a sense. The Rohan woman burying her cousin was particularly chilling.
