Oh! I loved this! I can just see Bilbo making Aragorn sit there and taste those apples too! Lovely heart-warming story.

This is such a fun story! It begins with a touch of sadness as it dwells quite a bit on partings, and the idea of everyone leaving at the end of LotR is a very bittersweet one. But as the story progressed and Aragorn began to relate his experience of apple testing in the Shire, it became much more light-hearted, and by its end, I was grinning. I would dearly love to get my hands on Bilbo's book as I'm curious about what he might have said concerning his apple tester. In the end, though there is still a parting, it's not nearly as sad and there's a sense that the friendship (or at least reminders of it) will continue. Great story!

This is a lovely tale - it really shows the unique bond Aragorn and Bilbo must have forged. Very amusing incident, as well!

An unusual interaction-Bilbo and Aragorn, even if only through the medium of a letter. One imagines Aragorn must have been very drawn to the one other mortal person in Imladris, despite his affinity for and familiarity with the Elves. A fitting bon voyage for Bilbo, at once humorous, humane, and bittersweet.
