This is the story of how Frodo gifted Crickhollow to Merry and Pippin, and of their moving in together, and weathering Merry's first anniversary illness. Yet of course, there is far more to it than that, as we see Pippin groping towards an understanding of why, really, that it IS all for the best that he move in with Merry into the little house in Buckland. Very beautifully and lyrically told, as with all this author's work. The only slash in this is implied.

In this story we see how Merry and Pippin come to live at Crickhollow. What I enjoyed most about it is that Pippin's parents understand (or at least try to understand) why their son needs to move across the Shire so soon after he's finally come home. I also love seeing Pippin look after Merry, who needs it - and Pippin I think, needs to help just as much.

First meetings between canon characters are one of the forms especially suitable to being drabbled, and these are no exception. I personally loved the last line: [And she thinks, one day, perhaps hell look backor else shell kick.]

My favourite part of this was that Merry had known that the Shadow would fall on him again. I am so glad that the two of them are there for each other.

I liked the role reversal here, that Pippin has this chance to care for Merry. Frodo and Pippin's parents were wonderfully understanding of the situation.
