Good grief - this is a great way to 'learn' about American football. Seems even Boromir can understand Linaewen's description. In fact, be excited by them. This is a real hoot - whether you are a football fan or not. And to think that the Big Man would let Lin take a moment to watch the game and not write about him. I wonder if Beorn will be watching the Packers' December 25th game? He could bring bees. That would make the game even more interesting. (I remember too many college games swatting bees away!) And might Boromir be seen wearing a 'G' for Green Bay instead of for Gondor? And eating cheese? Oh - and couldn't you just see him with the special 'Wisconsin' helmet on? ROTFL! I wonder if he went home and showed Faramir and Beregond how to play it? Even Merry and Pippin would have fun with this tale. Congrats, Lin. Great job. These moments between Boromir and his scribe are precious.

I don't know the first thing about American Football (for someone like me coming from what they like to call a 'Soccer Nation', the lessons in the story were definitely appreciated), but at any rate that made it easier for me as the reader to put myself into Boromir's shoes. Notice how I am not suprised to have a character piping up and enquiring after the latest story? Even though mine are usually Elves, and more impulsive than our beloved Gondorian (and less interested in my affairs), the idea rings true and familiar. And yours is more amusing, did I mention the sporfles I got from seeing Boromir strive to understand American Football? Definitely amusing, thank you for the laugh.

Oh, dear--the next chapter of Boromir's story appears to be languishing, and our intrepid first-born son to the last Ruling Steward grows petulant, particularly as it appears the author is putting off writing in favor of watching a football game. Although what American football is and its importance tends to be lost on this son of Gondor as he demands explanations--and then puts a demand in the language of the game he's just been taught. Amusingly done, and Boromir is right in character!

I imagine I know even less than Boromir about American football , but this was great fun to see Boromir try to understand why a game should distract the telling of more stories about him. Most enjoyable even for this reader who finds sport boring.
