The course of true love is often filled with bumps, much as was a particular post road used by Bungo and Belladonna Took as they made a trip to see her family in the Great Smials, a trip that led to the birth of their first (and only living) child. As he waits for matters to come to a head, Bungo ponders the incidents that led to the excavation of Bag End and their marriage, and his relationships with his parents, his inlaws, and his younger brother. It's very satisfying to see more of Bungo Baggins, a character who too often is ignored in fanfiction, which more often features his famous son. Dreamflower has given us a very hobbity look at Bilbo's parents and how Bilbo came into the world. Well worth the read!

An atmospheric autumn day is the background to Bungo Baggins's musing abotu his relationship with his passionate wife, Belladonna Took. Only in the end do we find out that it is also a very special day indeed - the day Bilbo Baggins is born. With warmth, wisdom and a smidgin of humour, Dreamflower tells the tale of two loving hobbits and the origins of their fabled home. Well done!

A lovely and well-written portrait of the parents of Bilbo Baggins. There aren't enough fanfiction stories about Bungo and Belladonna; who had to have been, in a hobbity way, an odd couple, or at least from very disparate families. I always thought Bungo had to have had considerable courage in pursuing the fabulous - and notorious - Belladonna, daughter of a family who must have been looked askance at by the more traditional (and less open-minded) hobbit families. I especially enjoyed the characterization of the Old Took...

I have no idea how I missed this story when it was first posted on LiveJournal - but I'm glad I finally found it. This was quite a lovely look at how Bungo and Belladonna's courtship might have gone written by one of the more prolific authors of hobbit fic in the fandom.
