A very fun little glimpse into some of Aragorn's additions to Minas Tirith (pipe-weed) and how it may have been received by others. It says much about Gondor's politics that Faramir would rather spend his brief recess with a smoking Aragorn than with arguing counselors. The voices of both Faramir and Aragorn ring true, and I love the fact that Arwen has convinced Faramir to join her in her campaign to get Aragorn to ease up on the pipe. And I love Aragorn's very casual response to all of it. Though now that I think about it, I wonder if his smoking habits might not be a deterrent to counselors intent upon continuing debates once court has been adjourned. That's also something I could see Aragorn doing, and if pushed to it, I could see Faramir doing the same. Definitely something to think about.

An amusing conversation between King and Steward in the early Fourth Age. Faramir has a plan, given him by another;to discourage the King's smoking habit; a plan which Aragorn figures out easily. DancingKatz sketches the friendly relationship of Faramir and Aragorn through crisp, sparkling dialogue that shows the speakers' intelligence and mutual respect. A most entertaining ficlet.

Oh dear! Middle-earth may not have the American Cancer Society bearing down on it with dire warnings, but that doesn't mean the king's favorite vice goes without objection in Gondor. I like the somewhat clumsy attempt on Faramir's part to team up with Arwen, and the fact that, weighed in the balance, smoking may ultimately prove the lesser evil in certain cases. Amusing ficlet, Dancingkatz!

Someone wishes that the King of Gondor and Arnor would quit the lamentable habit of smoking, and I very much fear it is NOT the one who confronts him now. As to Aragorn's response--I certainly hope his companion doesn't take him up on the suggestion! A lovely, gently humorous piece. Yes, smoke some Longbottom Leaf as an antidote to a heavily distressing Ciuncil meeting! Heh!

This is a hilarious ficlet! I love the glimpse back into Aragorn and Arwens distant history together, Faramirs employment in Arwens schemes to improve her husband and finally Faramirs contemplated conversion as a way to escape the turmoil of the council meetings. Thank you!

*grin* One of the most telling signs of the era in which LotR was written is how acceptable, even laudable, smoking was in the story. From our own perspective however, it's different. I can easily imagine a conversation like this-- it's quietly funny. I love Faramir's wry reply at the end. Indeed, taking up the habit might be the lesser evil.

Even though I'm as anti smoking as Arwen, I enjoyed this ficlet very much. It was amusing to hear Faramir try to talk Aragorn out of his bad habit at Arwen's behest. I can well understand that Aragorn must at times want to get away from his Council and Faramir too, but I hope the Steward will not take up smoking too.Eowyn would surely not be pleased at all!

I love this story... it never fails to make me snicker. One way or another, I expect that Aragorn is going to corrupt his Steward, Faramir, into that filthy habit of smoking pipe weed!
