This is another edge-of-your-seat and hang-on-for-dear-life story full of cliffhangers by Budgielover. One of the things that increases the excitement is that in this story, as in Some Nameless Place the author has split up the Fellowship, so that instead of one adventure at a time we are getting three; Frodos, Merry and Boromirs, and the rest of the Fellowships. These groups have been separated through misfortune Frodo was snatched, the main group of the Fellowship is tracking him through an underground lair swarming with goblins and worse, and Merry and Boromir have been cut off from the others and Merry is suffering from a poisoned wound caused by a goblins claw. Whew! And that is just barely scratching the surface (Sorry Merry!). Not only do they need to somehow need to rescue Frodo, there is an imminent attack planned on Rivendell, and a great evil is on the scene. There are all sorts of exciting bits in this story. Some of my favourites are Merry and Boromirs misfortune while trying to join the rest of the Fellowship, Merry and the goblin, Merrys use of what was in Gandalfs pack, Boromirs frustrations with the medicines and his care of Merry I am also enjoying the interaction of the main group of Companions, particularly with Pippin. The story has tons of action, angst, humour, drama, and horror, and it is an all around good read!

Oh, I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet! An rollicking, angsty dash in typical Budgie style that is just as readable as it could possibly be. There are times when I am in the mood for thoughtful introspection, times when I want good smut, but Budgie's brand of carefully crafted h/c / angst goes down well at ANY time. She writes clearly, with humor at times and a great grasp of how to create dramatic tension. Her cliffhangers are legendary (and at times exceedingly cruel! LOL!) and I have never finished one of her chapters without aching to read the next one. Budgie has a great skill in that and I applaud it.

I look forward constantly for updates of this WIP. The author specializes in suspenseful gapfillers, and this is no exception every chapter ends in a nail-biting cliffhanger. I love her determined Frodo, her patient Sam, her brilliant Merry and her hyper Pippin. Boromir comes off very well indeed in this one.

I've been following this story along as it has grown and I'm getting short on fingernails! It's a marvelous cliffhanger, with more than one member of the Fellowship imperilled, and with the strong characterizations which are a trademark of Budgielover's work.
