Superb retelling of Thranduil's past. The attack on Doriath was fast and furious, and I love the despair and frustration he feels when he loses Sirion, especially after having lost Doriath twice. He's never been able to keep a home, and now he's losing Greenwood, too. The weary acceptance at the end was very well done. Great story.

Wow, a short story and yet full of so much! Thank you, Coriel, for the reminder of what Thranduil had lived through: 2 sacks of Doriath, then Sirion. Coriel did not shy away from the savageness of those attacks, let us feel the true hurt of the Kinslaying, and yet showed also that Thranduil did not hate blindly, even coming to appreciate Gimli, "a prince among dwarves". But where is the next story?
