I've decided that poor Beregond needs far more attention in fanfics, especially if it's attention of this caliber. Lindelea takes the meager details we know about Beregond and uses them to build a complex, loyal, noble practical character who is willing to accept the consequences of his actions, even though those actions were taken to save Faramir's life. Brief cameos by more prominent canon characters enhance the story, but the real beauty is in the OCs that surround Beregond. They round out and complete Beregond, beginning with his friends from the guard as well as the relatives of the guards he had to kill in order to save Faramir. And that's another thing I really like about this fic. There are consequences to Beregond's action aside from breaking the law. He killed, and those men he killed were men he knew and had families of their own. I love the way Lindelea brings this into the story. The opening chapter was marvelously told through flashbacks as well as a very wry battle sense of humor with Beregond and Targon contemplating life while slowly suffocating beneath a large and apparently odiferous troll. The final chapter provides a very satisfying conclusion, and the epilogue made me weep. Brilliant story and brilliant storytelling to go along with it!

Wow, I'm impressed, all the plotting and then the twists and turns involved in the story. Really interesting premise, I knew the necklace had something to do with it, but obviously, not exactly how it fit in. I was really glad a few times that the story was complete, and I didn't have to wait for updates, because I could easily see myself whining about it if I'd have had to wait to find out what happened between chapters. This was another story that I wasn't sure I would read, but after the first few paragraphs, I knew I had to finish it. I'm glad I did. I can't even imagine all the prep work you did to get it all plotted out, then made sure to tie up all the plot lines, and with so many characters. Well done. Thanks.

I am so glad I did not read this as a WIP. Seeing as I read the bulk of it over three days, it was quite intense and compelling, as evidenced by my doing something very dangerous to read it. Read and drive at the same time. Be thankful for my very good peripheral vision. This was masterfully crafted. A very complex plot, well-done combat scenes, believable OC's, no thread ignored, the attention in three parts to only one character each. And it was absolutely the best, most horrible long death scene(s) I've ever read. And being only half-way through the story, I would have died of vexation had I had to wait to find out that it wasn't as it seemed. As it was I had to spoil ahead just to know I could put the story down for the night and not be crying at work when I read it the next day. Oh, and Pippin's song! So perfect! Bravo!
