This is a lovely short story about Elrohir being 'saved' by a singer on the shore. The writer has used enough detail to allow the reader to imagine being in the position Elrohir finds himself in, without going overboard into the 'purple' vein of prose. I like that the author does not reveal who the elf Elrohir sees is, but the discriminating reader should know the 'singer by the shore' who, hopefully, still lingers and saved Elrohir's live from the tide. It is a nice glimpse into a young Elrohir, and how often we as parents write off our children's stories as 'overactive' imagination. A well told story.

This entire story felt like a song to me. The word choice seemed very lyrical, and the cresting waves reminded me of rising and falling melodies. Add to this the fact that I love anything having to do with Maglor, and perhaps that might explain why I enjoyed this story so much. I also liked how Elrohir's mystery visitor was seen and yet unseen and how no one truly believes he saw anything in the end. In the end, it was almost like a child's fantasy, except that we as readers were also there and we know the truth.
