"Eomer turned his overconfident gaze to Theodred. He squeezed his legs firmly into the horse's sides. 'You were...' He found himself lying on the grown, admiring the blue sky above him, and at a loss as to how eh got there." I think this was probably my favourite part of this drabble. It is just so Eomer, that he would be that cocky and fun-loving, but also resilient. He came shining through in this one -- as did Theodred (at least how I imagine him; canon doesn't tell us that much): still fun-loving, but very brotherly and more mature. Age, and the gruesome nature of war, will do that to you. All in all, this was a very nice drabble. Well done, Cheryl.

I loved the humor in this double drabble. I saw it coming before it arrived, but it was still fun. I very much like this characterization of Theodred, too. He serves as the voice of warning, but he also allows Eomer to learn from experience. The upshot is that he gets to laugh at Eomer in the process, and he strikes me as someone who would make a good foil and a good friend for an impetuous cousin.

This is a lovely cousinly moment. Cheryl shows us clearly how Éomer has the overconfidence of youth and Theódred the wisdom of greater experience. But she also shows us how Theódred rather unfairly goads Éomer into taking on a challenge he knows he’s unlikely to succeed at. And the moment of Éomer’s disorientation after he is thrown is handled beautifully: well done “show not tell”.

This is a nice story with some good details but a little wordy, actually.

A cute, horsey interaction for Éomer and Théodred. Classic punchline.

A lovely view of Eomer and Theodred. It is nice the way you show them in this.
