This drabble touches on something that I don't think I've never seen commented on before, certainly something I've never thought about in any depth: the fact that the east-door to Moria is left open. It's such a little thing, but given that the dwarves escaped that way it shows a certain hope of returning. (Though I wager the Lothlorien elves didn't think too highly of that particular decision!) The other thing that caught my attention about this drabble is the opening lines about how of course they were ordered, they were dwarves. Craftsmen aqnd traders to the very end, even with a balrog on their tails! very interesting piece, Dwim.

There was something very strong and very dwarven about this drabble. Yes, they'd been driven out, and yes, they were now Exiles, but I never got the sense that this was the end. I love the word "unbowed" because of the way it defines the dwarves. I also liked the idea that the ends of the earth were their destiny but Khazad-dum was their heart. I can see that in Gimli and in nearly all the dwarves in The Hobbit.

This is great. With the economy of words necessitated by a drabble the author has told us a great deal about dwarves - that they would 'flee' with the same dedication with which they work, and be both sentimental and serious - and created a memorable character in Thrain, heir to Durin the Deathless, inspired leader of his people.

I am always delighted to read stories on the Dwarven culture, and this drabble caught much of their essence, methinks. And, if I may add, the title was a stroke of genious. Good work, Dwim!

Calm and careful even in flight, trusting their ruler. A clear and telling glimpse into the nature of dwarves.
