Fascinating idea, that Legolas would turn to Gimli and request a song after declaring that elven melodies just didn't capture Gandalf. It reminded me of Gimli's chant in Moria and also of Sam's reaction to it. According to Sam, he could almost see the lights and the dwarves, and certainly it was unlike any of the elven songs in Tolkien's works. Perhaps that's why Legolas asked. Or perhaps because Gimli was someone who had also walked with Gandalf and who had also seen his fall. This drabble has certainly made me think, and it has turned me back to several different moments in the Fellowship, which is probably one of the most powerful ways a drabble can make an impact: pointing to something bigger. Wonderful allusions.

Ah... I like the way this drabble shows the change which the loss of Gandalf and the trip through Moria has made to Gimli and Legolas. Before that, I don't think Legolas would have asked, nor Gimli answered...

An interesting view of Legolas and Gimli, however it feels incomplete.

Interesting, but sadly disappointing.
