Oh, I so love this poem in which Fredegar “Fatty” Bolger’s exploits as the leader of the rebels who opposed Lotho and his “Gatherers and Sharers” are celebrated, even if they were somewhat exaggerated as described by the author! As several who reviewed the poem/song when it was first posted to the LOTR Community Challenges have noted, this poem is very Hobbity in nature, and so true to the celebration we tend to make of folk heroes who are willing to face down the tyrants of the world.. A rolicking piece with an excellent lilt—I can so imagine it being sung to Freddy’s embarrassment when he enters any inn’s common room anywhere within the Shire! Definitely deserved its nomination!

-- You are the first to review this one as well! I had wanted to write this ever since Chapter 30 of A New Reckoning, and am so glad it lives up to expectations!

It took me a bit of time to get into the rhythm of this poem, but I loved the story it told, and loved just as much the notes at the bottom. To me, they act like annotations, and play into the idea that this is a folk song, and so as is usual, not all is exactly as it happened. Great to see the Shire's own Robin Hood get his due!

-- I did want the notes to be a part of the whole, and I'm very glad you liked them! It's fun to play with the notion that some of those heroic deeds were exaggerated through ballads and songs!

Bravo! A song to be sung by hobbits everywhere. I especially love the footnotes. Goes off humming.

-- *grin* I am so glad you liked it!
