We rarely get to see an imperial Faramir, but this drabble shows us one -- in a form. There is the intellectual curiosity that is so characteristic of him, but here it isn't merely intellectual. Good to know that will be tempered with age. The line that caught my attention this time (as opposed to when I first read it at the birthday cards forum at HASA) is how the river (Anduin) runs through all the lands Denethor has just named. That reminded me oddly of ancient Egypt, how the Nile was the lifeblood of the land. Interesting and fitting -- though quite possibly unintended -- given Tolkien's comments in the Letters about the crown of the kings resembling the crown of the pharaohs of Egypt. All in all this is a good drabble. It's different than what we often see, but it works.

There really need to be more stories in which Denethor and Faramir are on more than just speaking terms. I liked the way that Faramir's thirst for knowledge was portrayed, and I loved Denethor's reaciton when this thirst extended into darker subject matter. Faramir's brave vow was wonderful, but even better was the fact that Denethor seemed to believe him. I just wish his confidence in his second son could have lasted. Great drabble.

Excellent drabble! It's rare we see young Faramir as a strong-minded little boy enjoying his father's undivided attention. Nicely done.

I thought this was fine, but the boy much more characteristic of Boromir than Faramir.

A lovely scene. It is nice to see this relationship writen in a positive light, even knowing what is to come.
