Summary: The young mature, and perceptions change, but sometimes we can't really know a person until they're gone... (refers to the deaths of Tanglinna and Brethil in a previous story of Treehugger's). An homage-fic written as a gift for TreeHugger and JastaElf.

I cried when I first read this and I had to fight the tears again. Thranduil's advice to Legolas after his friend's death is just beautiful: "Grieve for them, but do not allow your sorrow to sour unto bitterness. Rather, let it run its course, and then lay it to rest in the still places of your mind, where it may whisper words of wisdom, but will not plague you so." Tanglinna is one of the best OC's I've found in LOTR fanfic, and even though, he doesn't belong to Katharine, she paid him a beautiful tribute, fleshing out even more in a rememberance after his death.

Oh! I'm so glad I looked at this one. What a wonderful remembrance for Legolas to receive. And such a touching story. Lovely.

Having just discovered the Tricksy Trio and Tanglinna, the Master Archer, from reading Tales of the Jade King, I had to read this one next. The imagery of the drawings fit so well with my idea of Tanglinna - an observer, watching each move his students made in their quest to conquer archery. He was so like the great hawk, stern, feral, beautiful. As did Tanglinna, I also could see the elves in the drawings: Thranduil, the green-eyed eagle; his queen, the falcon; the three bright-eyed mischievous squirrels, the tricksy trio; and Legolas, the inquisitive yellow-winged bird. Katharine weaves a fitting requiem to Brethil and Tanglinna, Treehugger's original characters.
