Kudos to Beregond for being such an understanding parent. And there's definitely wisdom here, too, though perhaps a different kind than what one might normally expect. Bergil would definitely be safer somewhere else, but Beregond can see deeper than that, and he can see that this is something Bergil needs to do. Great portrayal of a very bittersweet moment.

Bergil's desire to stay in Minas Tirith -- that is something I had not really pondered much. I wonder if he asked or he was told. And from the father's point of view how hard it must have been to let/see him stay, thinking they faced their doom. Nicely done!

What I really liked in this drabble was the reason you gave Beregond for letting his son stay in Minas Tirith. In my own I took a comedic out, but you managed to offer a convincing reason -- one that made me respect both Bergil and Beregond more.

As a mother of a pre-teen, and a young teen, son and the state of the world today, the emotion in this drabble touches me in a fearful way.

The language you use here invokes the scene vividly. It is a well written little scene.

A nice peek at Beregond's thoughts and why he might've allowed Bergil to remain in Minas Tirith with him.
