This is a wonderful story that features Rose Cotton's mother, Rose, Marigold Gamgee as they go about baking a birthday cake for Frodo Baggins per a request from Fredegar Bolger. The story is a lovely look at some of the Shire's female characters and their interactions with one another. The author makes this lasses of the Shire come to life as she writes them. There aren't enough stories in fan fiction that deal with the female hobbits within Tolkien's universe. Since very little is known about some of the characters in this story, the author has to attempt to give us a sense of them and she does so with style. I enjoyed this very much. There is one side story that runs behind the action in this one that gives it another level but I'll not spoil that by telling you about it. I hope you will take the time to read this one for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

Ah, a sweet gift for our Frodo, commissioned by (who else?) Frodo's friend and cousin, Fredegar "Fatty" Bolger, and executed by Lily Cotton. The story itself is delectable, and the recipe a sweet one. For those who collect recipe-fics, this is not to be missed!

I love hobbit stories that include the recipes they mention, and that sounds delicious. This was a very nice look into Rosie's mind at Sam's leaving, and I was pleased to see it remain within book canon. Well done.
