Summary: So how did Legolas meet Aragorn anyhow, and under what circumstances? Goes from light to heavy and back again. Gap-filler set between Gollum's arrival in Mirkwood and his interrogation; violent in parts, plenty of fake elven metaphysics, traces the beginnings of a friendship between Aragorn and Legolas. Original characters, Gandalf, Gollum, and Thranduil also figure in this fic.

Ah, this is one of my favorites of Dwimordene's. Maybe because Legolas has such a big part in it and I know she's an Aragorn fan. This was a wonderful story. The original characters were drawn so well I felt I knew them. And the werewolves? Oh my gosh! I loved how she drew the fear and malice emanating from Dol Goldur and the Nazgul. And she even added another epilogue for me! How perfect is that!

Without a doubt, this is my favorite Aragorn and Legolas friendship origin fic. The duties and responsibilities of both characters is never forgotten, and Dwimordene plays off a wonderful balance of tentative friendship and the occasional misunderstanding. A very well rounded fic with action, contemplation, and chilling look at some of the horrors the elves of Mirkwood were forced to face in defending their realm. The canon characters are very much themselves, and the original characters are personalities within their own right. They become individuals a reader can care for and grieve with. The situations are real, the reactions of those involved fit the circumstances, and the elves remain elves while Aragorn remains what he is, namely a Ranger who was raised by elves. The differences are there. More subtle, perhaps, than if a different man had stood in Aragorn's place, but Dwimordene makes certain that the inherent contrasts between people come out and play off one another as she expertly foils the characters against one another.
