This is an unusually lovely piece of short fanfiction - very romantic with a glowing sensuality about it. Tolkien seems to have a thing for hair; and who can forget the image of Faramir and Eowyn in ROTK, standing together on the walls of Minas Tirith, their raven and golden hair mingling in the wind. Here, the married Faramir and Eowyn share a delight in Eowyn's hair, part of her and also, apparently and not surprisingly, one of Faramir's favorite of his wife's many outstanding attributes. I love it that she says a special goodbye to him, lying in bed with her hair, untamed as she still is, spread out on the pillow - that's a very sexy and natural image. Faramir obviously has a thing for blondes, and in particular this blonde who he married. And the ending, with the sensory indulgence of scent, shows that Faramir's connection to his wife is more than visual. The smell of Eowyn's hair being a mixture of violets and hay is quite appropriate for Eowyn, as a beautiful woman who was reared in a horse-oriented culture and who doubtless is still involved in the maintenance of the horses of Emyn Arnen. The combination of love and sexuality in fanfiction, especially when written delicately rather than applied with a literary sledgehammer, is always pleasing; and this drabble is no exception.

Dear Linda, I would have my doubts that parting is a sorrow that is in any way sweet, especially if two lovers are to be separated for some time, but of course such a parting is a time of intensified feelings and an opportunity for tender gestures, which you have captured very well in this drabble. And apart from the gentle atmosphere and crisp imagery, it’s lovely to see a lock of hair given that will not lead to dramatic complications further down the line! Thank you for a delightful glimpse into the married life of my favourite Lord of the Rings couple.

Regardless of the brevity of this tale, for it is a drabble, reading it is almost a sensual experience. In the story of the love between Eowyn and Faramir, all the senses--sight, smell, taste, touch, and even hearing as they speak together--are beautifully described. This story is a delightful account of Eowyn and Faramir together, and a true pleasure to read.

This is totally cushy and totally sweet. I love it. I know many think that Eowyn is fickle but I think that perhaps she simply finally "got it" She saw what true unconditional love was and she found peace in Faramir. They are a wonderful couple and her gesture was so sacrificial and almost reminiscent of Galadrial's gift to Gimli.

A beautiful look at the romance between Steward and Lady. I loved the emotion so evident between both of them.

Beautiful, sweet moment between Faramir and Eowyn. Nicely done.
