Summary: From the hobbits' fall at Mt. Doom to Sam's waking in Ithilien... the story Tolkien only hinted at. What really happened when all the healing powers of wizards, elves and men were summoned to insure that this was not the end of all things for the halflings? Sorrow, hope and healing in a strictly canon gapfiller.

Lovely story. I especially liked Aragorn's insight that Frodo himself had prepared for his quest to end with his own death. Sort of adds to the idea that he'd saved the world, but not for himself.

Until I read this, it never occurred to me that Aragorn might have considered letting Frodo and Sam die as an act of mercy. That was only a small point brought out by this story, but it was related very well and it touched upon the idea of Frodo having to leave Middle-earth in order to find healing. In the end, I think the choice was ultimately up to Frodo and Sam, so I'm glad Aragorn gave them the chance to make that choice. But interesting concept, nonetheless.

Very well written story. My word, can you write angst! The descriptions of Frodo and Sam are very good, and Aragorn's grief is so real. Very sad and very touching.

This story draws the reader in from the very start. It is written in such a style that I felt that I had an intimate view of what was happening. All of the details are wonderfully drawn, and I liked the attention to them. For example, the fact that Frodo and Sam were holding hands so tightly when found was a perfect touch. All of the characterisations were very good, and I especially enjoyed poor Peregrin having his bath!

This is one of my favorite Waking in Ithilien scenes. The rescue by the eagles is well done. Beautiful meeting between Frodo and Gandalf, and Aragorn as well. The characterizations are exact. Aragorn in particular is well done. I can almost feel some of that healing rubbing off on me! And, the character of Idril is sweet. So very true that nearly all who meet Frodo, love him. Wonderful.
