Ack! I finally found it. I had mislaid the number for this one and had looked for it but somehow my eyes just skipped over it in drama. I'm glad I finally found it, because this is one I would definitely recommend to a friend. In this fandom Legomances are almost a cliché. Add to that the fact that the OFC in question is a prostitute and a past lover of Faramir, and you have a plot line you would think has been done a thousand times and whose leading female could very easily turn into a Mary Sue. But not in Lady Aranel's masterful hands. The erotica is of course delicious. Sulriel wasn't kidding when she said that there are many of us who are waiting for the long-promised bath. I have had the pleasure to beta this piece, so I can tell you that (for me at least) the piece does not grow dull on repeated reading. (And the mental image of Faramir on that rug is nice, too...) But more than that, they are entirely in-character for Legolas and the OC. This is one of the very few fics that gives a convincing explanation for promiscuity in an Elf (albeit not a Noldo). What really gets me, though, is the details. Not just the physical details of their surroundings (those are nice) but I'm thinking mainly of the back story. Both Lalaith and Legolas have well-defined backgrounds - and intriguing ones at that! - that effect how they interact. It's details like that that make "Gift" stand out.

Aranel-dearest. It it with deep regret that I gaze on the latest chapter of this fic, time after time, and long for that bath and what comes after. You have a gift of detail and nuance that is extraordinary. It is a disservice to all who love Legolas that this fic remains unfinished. In a world of Legomances and MarySues, Lalaith shines as a wonderfully doubtful and insecure OFC, loving someone else, but drawn to this stranger, always questioning her motives, her feelings, her emotions. Your eroticism is exceptionally well-handled, perfectly balanced in detail and imagination. This is at the very top of my list of fics I'd love to see finished.
