I never did understand Bombadil, but I do appreciate his presence in this drabble. For once, his songs aren't complete nonsense. The prophecies in them are both ominous and hopeful, foretelling of Theoden, Eomer, Boromir, and possibly even Halbarad as well as others that I didn't catch. The doom associated with these characters (with the exception of Eomer) is grim, but the message of the song is hope. I like how even the Old Forest, which isn't know for being a welcoming place, feels comforted in the end. And though Bombadil's presence, with his ["never seen, but always there, sometimes aiding, always watching... "], could be taken as eerie, it doesn't ever feel that way. The drabble keeps its hopeful tone all the way through, much as Aragorn does for the majority of his life.

A scene I would like to imagine really might have happened. I felt Aragorn's quick acceptance of the offerings as he was on his uncertain adventurous search very effective in conveying his instinctive trust and the good feeling Tom Bombadil must have imbued this part of the forest with. I loved the little song, which summarises so effectively much of what happened in LotR in a touching and personal way.

He'd desired to satisfy his curiosity about the fabled Master of the Old Forest, but it appears that Tom didn't choose to show himself to the Chieftain of the Rangers. But a gift he bestowed--a gift and a song, a jug of sweet water and wood for the fire--and a dagger, ancient but a worthy gift. Lovely foreshadowing of friendships yet to be made and alliances to be forged. A well crafted double drabble.

What a beautiful idea that young Aragorn should search for Tom Bombadil after hearing tales of him. The young Ranger falls asleep and dreams. When he awakens, a ancient dagger is beside him. Was it a dream or not? This was a lovely drabble and something that felt very "real".

There are precious few stories about Tom Bombadil out there, and this is wonderful. I like the glimpse of Tom as more than just a silly little man singing songs and skipping around with water lilies, but still definitely himself. Makes you wonder anew just what sort of being he is.

I always am delighted when Tom Bombadil makes an appearance in fic, whether overtly or covertly. His merry song suited the occasion, as did his anonymous gifts. A very plausible encounter.

An interesting and unexpected choice of setting for young Estel! Reading this on Halloween, it feeds right into the eeriness of the season, yet one gets the sense of a world that is not actively hostile to its seekers - a good sign for one Estel! Sweet and enjoyable.

This was a lovely what if, which rises trippingly off the page as if without effort. A pretty little ditty.

That's a very, very original idea, and I loved the foreshadowing in Tom Bombadil's song! It definitely beats his nonsense [Tom Bom, jolly Tom] rhymes! Thank you, this made me smile.
