The title itself is ironic as we watch one of the Noldor who took ship at Alqualonde survive a shipwreck and find succor along the coastline of Aman, finding love as well--he thought. Blest, was he? Perhaps, until news of how he came to be aboard the ship destroyed by the wrath of Osse and Ulmo came to the family along with word on how many of their family had been lost in the kinslaying. The vengeance taken on him is worthy, I believe; and the family declares itself blest, although I firmly suspect they will find their vengeance to be rather hollow in the end. Definitely a bitter taste to this one, but rightfully so. Well written.

This is one of those stories with a twist at the end and Ellie is the queen of plot-twists. Set just after the Kinslaying at Alqualonde, one Noldo, who survives being drowned in the storm that wrecks many of the Telerin swanships stolen by the Feanorians, considers himself fortunate. But is he truly blessed? You really have to feel sorry for the poor smuck in the end and thatís what makes the title so deliciously ironic.

Quite an interesting turnabout in this short story. I like the way the Teleri family does not, turns their status as victims of the Noldor Kin-slayers around and takes a vengeance that is not totally unjust. The nod to the importance of a smith in Elven society is well-placed; and the protagonist's fate is reminiscent of actual historic practice in, I believe, the British Isles and Europe.
